The $4 billion atom smasher is ready for Big Bang tests...


The most powerful atom smasher ever built is ready to come online on Wednesday, eagerly awaited by scientists worldwide for two decades. The machine is at CERN, the European organisation for nuclear research where a closer look will be taken at the make-up of "matter".

The multimillion dollar HADRON COLLIDER will explore the tiniest particle and come ever closer to recreating the "Big Bang" - the theory that a colossal explosion created the universe - the planets, moons and...life itself!

However, skeptics claim it could create micro black holes.
