Take action - wake up or become human clones New Zealand!

Okay, perhaps the headline is a tad sensationalist but after yesterday’s announcement that the Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) has approved genetically modified goats, sheep and cows at AgResearch’s Ruakura research facility I wouldn’t be surprised if human cloning was on the cards soon.

I’m also not surprised that this consent was given considering ERMA’s rubber stamp approval of past applications. In the nearly 15 years since ERMA was formed it has yet to decline a single GE application. Talk about a lap dog for GE interests.

And yes, I can hear people say ‘but this application is different’ and ‘it will save people’s lives’. But human cloning is different, I guess.

I say ‘bollocks’. Yes, I know they say these GE applications will not be used for commercial interests in terms of developing milk. But, my sense is, that is exactly where this will lead. Along with the recent pro-GE grass articles these applications are for the commercial interests of big agri-business.

You may think, how cynical, but this is a subject close to my heart. Two of my siblings have muscular dystrophy. Several years ago there was a proposal to genetically engineer sheep to increase muscle mass up to four times. It was argued this process could be used to help people with muscular dystrophy. My siblings and I talked about this and we agreed that it seemed to be more about dollars in terms of ‘more muscle on sheep more dollars made in selling the meat’ than a genuine proposal to end muscular dystrophy. And where did that experiment end up? Nowhere and no cure in sight.

Greenpeace is not against GE for medical reasons. We believe that it should be kept in the lab and not out in our paddocks.

Plus, the Royal Commission (held in 2001 to determine whether GE should be allowed in NZ) recommended to use synthetic rather than human genes, and not use animals that could find their way into the food chain. Due to this and many other environmental and economic reasons this application should have been declined.

This government would support it friends in big business making money from cloning; even human cloning.

DO NOT GIVE SIDETICK A TICK. .

Do not give Sidetick a tick, They ripped me off! They don't deserve to be on the internet - a big thumbs down!

I'm really not a negative type, that why I'm always looking at new sites, especially blog and social network sites. I've had a few disabled for a variety of reasons, not usually my fault, in my opinion anyway.

If I allegedly break the TOS of a site, like Adsense for instance, I would appreciate being told the reason - Adsense never has told me. I can only presume I must have unknowingly and inadvertently clicked one of my own adds; if I did I am very remorseful about that. But Google Adsense the power and the glory on the internet didn't want to know. They made THEIR decision. But thats not what I'm actually writing about today, here at KR!

As I said earlier I'm always looking around at new sites. I've joined a couple of social network sites. Most are there for your enjoyment and social interaction - Netlog is a good example of that. Good site to communicate from.

But one day in the latter part of last year i was invited to a new site by one of my good blogging friends. So I signed up and began to navigate my way around the place. They said that this site is a paying site, and you got paid more if you intracted more. And so it appeared for many months. We got credited with Sidetick dollars for getting friends and interacting with them, setting up and participating in polls, writing on my blog, commenting on other blogs, downloading music,videos and games. I even took part in the NFL weekly game selections (despite knowing little about the American game) - football pools. I was earning a potential 3500-5000 Sidetick dollars, or SD's per week .By February of this year I had earned potentially 89,000 SD. 200,000 SD =US$100.00 at payout.

During February Sidetick made a bombshell announcement, which I didn't pickup until Feb 27, my birthday. Only citizens of the US and some obviously friendly countries, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Israel could continue to be allowed to earn money there. The rest of we members were foreigners and couldn't earn anymore. We had all participated and helped Sidetick to grow as a social site for all these months. Now we were being denied the opportunity to continue earning, and as a consequence to be able to have the opportunity to cash out what we may have already earned - in my case about US$45.00.

As a New Zealander and a friend and ally of the United States I was deeply angered and offended to be considered a mere foreigner, on a par with North Korea. I was irate, and sent messages to the Admin and wrote a couple of posts on my blog there. I received a reply which stated they were looking for ways for "foreign" members to continue earning money there.Yeah right! I didn't receive any opportunities to make more than pennies there. So I went on the attack outside of Sidetick! Now I'm not normally a vindictive person, but this kiwi doesn't appreciate being treated in such an unforgetable and off-hand manner - being ripped off!

Sidetick had actually committed offences against a New Zealand citizen and under NZ law would be guilty of false pretences and fraud. They continued to advertise their site without any mention of "two grades" of membership - Americans and buddies, and "foreigners" like me and those from North Korea, Zimbabwe, Iran and Fiji etc. But because they are registered in Atlanta, Georgia, there isn't anything I could do unless I went to Atlanta and took a case against them.

I wasn't surprised that after posting a few articles on various blogsites on the internet my account was disabled. Bully for Sidetick, the rip-off merchants of the internet! Many of my blogging friends are angered by Sidetick's actions, and one has said she will investigate ways within the US system to bring Sidetick to justice. Good for her!

What are the facts and truth in relation to the decision not to scatter Sir Edmund Hillary's remaining ashes on Mount Everest?

I wrote the following post about a week ago here and on a couple of my other blogsites:

"Sir Ed's ashes to be scattered on Mount Everest this week...

The ashes of 1953 Mount Everest conqueror, Sir Edmund Hillary, affectionally known as Sir Ed, will be scattered on the mountain this week by Nepalese mountaineer Apa Sherpa.

Most of Sir Ed's ashes were scattered in the sea off Auckland, New Zealand in 2008, but he wanted some returned to the mountain he climbed in the country he loved.

Fifty year old Apa, plans to place the ashes on the summit of Mount Everest when he attempts to personally conquer the peak for a record twentieth time this coming week. Sir Ed's son, Peter, also a former mountaineer, fully supports the bid by Apa Sherpa. Sir Ed is held in the highest esteem by the Nepalese people."

But however I read in the local Wellington newspaper, the Dominion Post this morning that all bets are off:

AngTenzing Sherpa, chief of Sherpa citizens group Khumbu Civil Society, has announced that the scattering of ashes on the mountain, considered a god by their Sherpa culture, was against their culture and tradition. Really?

How could a man who regularly visited and lived in Nepal off and on for decades, not know the traditions of the Sherpa culture and traditions? Why would he make a request in his will for some of his ashes to be scattered on the mountain? How could Apa Sherpa, who has climbed Mount Everest a record 19 times also be ignoranr of Sherpa culture and traditions?

The remaining ashes of Sir Ed's body will be kept at a memorial at the first school Sir Ed opened in Khumjung in Nepal.

How could such an incredible error of judgement be made, or are there political forces and intrigue at work in this remote and politically volatile country? It would be extremely sad if there were? Read one of the related articles linked below.

A most despicable decision by Sidetick to rob me of potential earnings and disable my account...

What do you know about Sidetick, a recent addition to the list of social network sites on the internet? Sidetick claimed last year, 2009, that they wanted to become the top site of its type out there. After you read this post you may have second thoughts!

I was introduced to the site by a good blogging friend and became quite rapt with Sidetick. Everything you did on site, visiting friends participating in polls, writing and replying to blog posts, playing games, adding music, photos, videos etc. I also participated regularly in last season's American Football Pools. using my memory really, as a New Zealander with limited knowledge of the game and the teams, I was earning from 3500 Points or Sidetick dollars up to 5000 a week. Hey, my points began to mount up.

Sidetick promised a payout to EVERYBODY at Sidetick when they had amassed 200,000 SD or US$100.00. On Feb 23 this year I noticed I had earned 89,000SD. The following day a bombshell was released! But for some reason I didn't pick it up until Feb27, my birthday. Do you know what it was? Well let me tell you dear reader!

Sidetick announced that only Americans and and some friends from Canada, United kingdom, Australia and Israel would continue to be allowed to earn money at Sidetick.I was shocked because as a New Zealander, across the Tasman Sea from our cousins in Australia was now a declared foreigner. As foreign as a North Korean! I was disgusted and deeply hurt by the despicable decision and ban against me. I sent some strong messages and wrote a couple of blog posts at Sidetick expressing my opinion. I have never been called a foreigner by Americans - usually friends and allies. We have special forces troops laying it on the line in Afghanistan. Tell our SAS troopers they are a bunch of foreigners!

So the upshot of Sideticks decision - treating those thousands of foreign members who have been supporting Sidetick very poorly indeed. They messaged us telling us they would investigate ways for foreign members to continue earning Sidetick dollars which could be cashed out in time. Well I've only earned what in reality will be pennies. I would never be in a position to ever cash my 89000SD into cash.

Its actually false pretences back home here in NZ. They have actually illegally changed their rules. I haven' t bothered to participate in Sidetick since. I have written and sent a Letter to the Editor of a Georgia newspaper. Sidetick are based in Atlanta.

Well, what do you think of that decision readers? Sidetick will never become a leading soaial network site because they don't understand the word "social".

Since I wrote this they have disabled my account and basically robbed me of potentially about US$45.000. I will continue to tell the world about their despicable treatment of me and other "foreigners".

Don't have a bar of these so-called social networkers - they will rob you blind. No? What do you think they have just done to me? If you see the word Sidetick start running!

Two Canadian brothers separated at a young age, both searching for their biological family have discovered they live across the road from each other.

Tommy Larkin, 30, and Stephen Goosney, 29, were given away to different adoptive families as infants and were left with little personal information to track down their birth parents.

Both brothers were searching for their biological families in order to find out their medical history before discovering they were neighbours, the Canadian Press reported.

Mr Larkin was at his Newfoundland home when he was told over the phone his biological brother's address — the house directly across the road from his.

Mr Larkin waited until his brother returned to the house the next day, then gave him a call.

"It was all pretty overwhelming," Mr Goosney said.

"We have been seeing each other pretty much every day, just hanging out and trying to catch up."

Mr Goosney said the pair felt an immediate connection after meeting.

"It feels different, having someone I can call a brother," he said.

"We both have families, but this is as close as it gets."

The brothers are now looking for the rest of their biological family.

Glasses aren’t so geeky after all - could be sexy? Well I wear them and have for a number of years now. Am I sexy? Well thats in the eyes of the beholder. So perhaps we may hear and see less of those extremely unkind and sometimes cutting comments about people who were glasses. We may be sexy?

Investing your hard-earned cash in a pair of spectacles is something no person should be ashamed of. In fact, turning a little four-eyed could be the first step to a new, and better, you.

According to the results of a recent survey commissioned by OPSM, wearing glasses improves your employment, sex and fashion appeal.

The online survey of 482 Kiwis by Stellar Market Research found a whopping 74 percent believe that glasses can make people look sexy and 93 percent believe glasses are more stylish than they used to be.

It's definitely time to bin the contact lenses.

More than one in four of those surveyed would consider wearing frames as a fashion accessory, even if they didn't need a prescription. And more than three quarters of people admitted to checking out a potential partner purely because of their eyewear.

Employability is also boosted by a pair of rims. Almost two thirds of people believe wearing glasses helps improve employment chances, while more than half think wearing glasses helps to make a better impression at a job interview and makes a positive first impression in the workplace
