Seal of the President of the United StatesImage via WikipediaTHE PRESIDENTS BOOK OF SECRETS  -  Does it exist or is it a myth?

by Peter Petterson

This post discusses this claim. By the time we finish reading all the relevant comments we may   really know or at least be better educated:

It has been reported that moments after being sworn in, all new  American presidents gain access to the Nuclear Football"  -  a briefcase containing the most volatile top-secret  information in the world - America's nuclear launch codes.

The "Football " is a high profile national secret - but it is only one of a great many pieces in  the classified arsenal at the President's disposal once he assumes the ultimate role of Commander-in Chief   -  THE PRESIDENTS BOOK OF SECRETS (video) takes  viewers on a journey inside White House history to unveil some staggering information about secrets known only to the President from top-secret intelligence and classified codes and future technologies.

Just what secrecy does an out-going President share with the incoming President-elect during that first private meeting? When does he actually gain access to the vital national secrets and receive the access codes to the nuclear arsenal?

Is there a 'Keeper' who informs the new President-elect about everything? What is so classified that even a presidential clearance is not even enough to gain access? How could a woman ever be elevated to  the supreme position in the United States of America? I really don't think it is at all possible, but that is an entirely different subject for another time and place.

Is there really a Book of Secrets -  You can answer that after viewing the video.

2009 Five Presidents, President George W. Bush...Image by Beverly & Pack via FlickrAmerican presidents must not lose their nuclear codes...

American presidents must ensure they don't lose the nuclear codes they are entrusted with in the event of a national crisis that may necessitate the launching of a nuclear attack.

President Bill Clinton allegedly mislaid his, and Jimmy Carter sent his  to the drycleaners in his suit pocket. So president Barack Obama take note!

All modern presidents have been entrusted with a code of identification to prove their identity in the event of a national crisis that may necessitate the launching of  a nuclear. attack.

President Obama sacks General McChrystal as top US commander in Afghanistan...

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama ousted Gen. Stanley McChrystal as the top US commander in Afghanistan on Wednesday, saying that his scathing published remarks about administration officials undermine civilian control of the military and erode the needed trust on the president's war team.

Obama named McChrystal's direct boss - Gen. David Petraeus - to take over the troubled 9-year-old war in Afghanistan. He asked the Senate to confirm Petraeus for the new post "as swiftly as possible."

The president said he did not make the decision to accept McChrystal's resignation over any disagreement in policy or "out of any sense of personal insult." Flanked by Vice President Joe Biden, Defence Secretary Robert Gates and Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in the Rose Garden, he said: "I believe it is the right decision for our national security."

Obama hit several gracious notes about McChrystal and his service, saying that he made the decision to sack him "with considerable regret." And yet, said he said that the job in Afghanistan cannot be done now under McChrystal's leadership, asserting that the critical remarks from the general and his inner circle in the Rolling Stone magazine article displayed conduct that doesn't live up to the necessary standards for a command-level officer.

Obama seemed to suggest that McChrystal's military career is over, including in his praise of the general that the nation should be grateful "for his remarkable career in uniform."

McChrystal left the White House after his Oval Office call to accounts, and returned to his military quarters at Washington's Fort McNair. A senior military official said there is no immediate decision about whether he would retire from the Army, which has been his entire career. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

With the controversy have the effect of refueling debate over his Afghanistan policy, Obama took pains to emphasize that the strategy was not shifting with McChrystal's outster.

"This is a change in personnel but it is not a change in policy," he said.

Indeed, as Obama was speaking, McChrystal released a statement saying that he resigned out of "a desire to see the mission succeed."

"I strongly support the president's strategy in Afghanistan," McChrystal said.

With Washington abuzz, there had been a complete lockdown on information about the morning's developments until just before Obama spoke.

But by pairing the decision on McChrystal's departure with the name of his replacement, Obama is seeking to move on as quickly as possible from the firestorm.

Petraeus, who attended a formal Afghanistan war meeting at the White House Wednesday, has been overseeing the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq as head of US Central Command.

Petraeus is the nation's best-known military man, having risen to prominence as the commander who turned around the Iraq war in 2007. The Afghanistan job is actually a step down from his current post.

The US and Cuba to hold immigration talks in Washington within days...

HAVANA – The United States and Cuba have agreed to hold immigration talks in Washington within days, a U.S. official said Saturday, the first since a similar meeting in Havana in February.

The talks scheduled for Friday are intended to monitor adherence to a 16-year-old agreement under which the United States issues 20,000 visas to Cubans a year, though in the past the sides have used the meeting to delve into more contentious issues.

In the last round of talks, U.S. diplomats pressed Cuba to release Alan Gross, a jailed American contractor that Cuba has accused of spying. Gross has been jailed for more than 6 months without charge.

The American delegation also met with dissidents in Havana, raising the ire of Cuban officials.

The latest round of talks will take place at an as-yet undetermined location in Washington, Gloria Berbena, a spokeswoman for the U.S Interests Section in Havana, told The Associated Press. The U.S. maintains the Interests Section instead of an embassy.

After a brief period of hope that U.S. President Barack Obama would usher in a new era of rapprochement with America's longtime Caribbean foe, relations between the United States and Cuba have been on a downward trajectory for some months.

Fidel Castro, once a grudging admirer of the president, has been harshly critical lately of everything from Obama's work at global climate change talks, to America's backing of Israel, to the use of American soldiers as part of relief efforts in quake-ravaged Haiti.

Cuba was particularly angry when Washington included the island on a list of state sponsors of terrorism back in December.

For its part, U.S. officials have made clear that there is little hope for improved relations while Cuba holds Gross. They have also continued to call on Fidel and his brother, President Raul Castro, to open up the island's political system to democratic reform. Cuba insists that the U.S. drop its 48-year trade embargo and stop meddling in the island's internal affairs.

Despite the lukewarm relations, there have been far more contacts between U.S. and Cuban officials than in years past. The State Department confirmed bilateral talks a few weeks ago on how to respond to the Gulf oil spill, which could threaten Cuban shores. And American and Cuban officials have met to discuss ways to coordinate aid to Haiti.

NOSTRADAMUS: THE BLACK PRESIDENT AND THE END OF THE WORLD IN 2012...

Nostradamus: The Black President and the End of the world in 2012.

"There are circulating on the world wide web some (allegedly)idiotic but also possibly dangerous rumours, featuring Nostradamus, Barack Obama, the Antichrist 111 and the End of the World (2012. The theories are (reportedly) extremely silly, undoubtedly. But they get quite dangerous too when you think of the idiots who might be taking some action, just because of the rumours. They create "Osama Obama Shotgun Pool" in Maine, because they just KNOW Obama is the anti-chtist." - Patrick Bernauw, in Offbeat. IS THE US UNDER OBAMA RETURNING TO EXPORT SUBSIDIES...

Is the US under Obama returning to outdated export protection subsidies...

First published at Qassia:

During the the 1980's and 90's the New Zealand economy underwent many fundamental changes during the changeover to market economics. Part of the process was the gradual reduction and eventual abolition of tariffs and export subsidies. This created much stress and economic hardship for New Zealanders. But the realisation that this was a process all economies were undergoing in the pursuit of a level economic playing field made the exercise more palliative.

But the announcement that the European Union and the United States were allegedly involving themselves in what could be termed another 'trade war' wasn't received too well by the New Zealand Government who fear NZ could become caught in a crossfire between the two economic superpowers, and could destroy hard earned progress in international trade talks, and put Kiwis standard of living at risk.

The NZ Trade Minister,Tim Groser, went close to slating the US for adopting new export subsidies for exporting dairy farmers, something described as the "most hated of all trade policy instruments".

The US move is a 'tit for tat' response to the EU action in January, a rather juvenile act in the 21st century one would suggest.

Mr Groser said the US action effectively destroyed the immensely difficult exercise of getting the commitment to eliminate export subsidies as part of the World Trade Organisation's Doha trade talks, begun in 2001. "The US and EU have gone back to sucking on that particular teat again". he said.

The US Dairy Export Incentive Program will pay exporters cash bonuses, enabling them to sell at lower prices to be more competitive. A return to the future, one could well say!

New Zealand, a nation of only 4.3 million people earns more than $6.3 billion in dairy exports annually, and were vulnerable to price levels and the potential damage if the situation escalated. The damage would not only affect NZ farmers, but the country as a whole - New Zealand's standard of living could deteriorate. It is potentially an extremely difficult situation. This would not be a positive signal to the rest of the world during the most severe economic contraction since the 1930's. Trade protection and retaliation is considered as being part of the Ark. Hopefully commonsense will prevail in both the US and EU.

Not a great signal from President Obama and the US Government at a time it seeks increased military support for its Afghanistan campaign against the Taleban?

CONGRATULATIONS TO PRESIDENT- ELECT BARACK OBAMA AND AMERICA - CAN YOU BELIEVE IT...

Congratulations to President- Barack Obama and America - can you believe it?

To an outsider and foreigner like myself President-elect Obama appears to be a highly intelligent, pragmatic and ambitious centrist with the ability and charisma to not only lead his people but to restrain any out of control idealogues within his own party. He may well be an unknown quantity and an untested politician in the wider sense. But he has the potential to be an inclusive messenger of hope with great leadership potential. His was a great acceptance speech.

What an admirable, elegant, and gracious concession speech from defeated republican presidential candidate, John McCain. I have gained some real respect for this politician and man in recent weeks. America was indeed fortunate to have two great candidates.

Perhaps John McCain realised even earlier in this campaign that he was part of something greater, something historical and that he was actually part of Barack Obama's destiny. Hopefully Barack Obama will not be cut short in the middle of his career like a notable predecessor, John F Kennedy. It is not only America that seeks leadership but the free world as well.

It is now extremely important for America itself that President Obama is allowed to realise his apparent destiny. As the first African American president of immigrant descent, American birth and education, he is talented, self made and charismatic.

Only the future will tell!

SARAH PALIN RECKONS IT'S THE TIME TO TAKE OFF THE GLOVES - A "MOOSEHEAD" IN MY HUMBLE OPINION...

Republican VP nominee, Sarah Palin reckons now is the time to take off the gloves. Loose cannon? Maybe!

As a foreigner looking in, I reckon her claims that Barack Obama was palling up to terrorists are inane and counterproductive to the Republican cause.

It is a sign that the campaign was turning nasty and may well see support for the Republicans falling even further. The Democrats dismiss the claims as just gutter politics!

Palin reckons its time to take off the gloves - just days after both presidential candidates called for a halt to partisan politics in the interests of ensuring the financial package can be passed.

I reckon she is a bit of a "moosehead" who could never be capable of stepping in as an alternative president if McCain was elected.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BARACK OBAMA...

The Truth About Barack Obama:

Rumors the Obama campaign shouldn't try to correct.

The Barack Obama presidential campaign introduced a new site last week, FightTheSmears.com, that it hopes will debunk persistent myths about the senator: that he's a Muslim, that he won't say the Pledge of Allegiance, etc. As we have argued before, restating the myths often reinforces them, no matter how persuasively they've been refuted.

Rather than restate untruths about Obama, the campaign would do better to start some rumors of its own. Here's a template e-mail the Obama campaign might consider disseminating.
