STOLEN NEW ZEALAND WAR MEDALS RETURNED - BUT THE INTRIGUE CONTINUES...

Stolen NZ war medals returned - but the intrigue continues...

First published at Qassia:

While the stolen New Zealand war medals have been returned, and we as a society are extremely pleased about that, the intrigue continues.
There are a couple of questions doing the rounds here:

1/ Were the medals stolen knowing that New Zealanders were so irate and upset they would support a reward?

2/ Were criminal ethnic gangs involved in the burglary, or did they become involved once a reward was mentioned?

I'd like to comment on what the New Zealand media claims happened.

A former gang member was granted bail twice as part of a deal for the return of stolen war medals. He was first granted bail on January 18 from Mount Eden prison in Auckland City. He had been on remand on drugs charges.

It was allegedly part of an arrangement made for the return of the 96 war medals, stolen in a raid on the Waiouru Army Museum on December 2 2007.

The man reappeared in court on January 21 on another set of charges, and was bailed again on the same terms.

These revelations come after claims made by a named lawyer who stated he brokered the deal, using his contacts to find who had the medals and spending time getting their trust.

Police neither confirmed or denied what had been said yesterday, or revealed how long the man had been in jail before being bailed.

The man told a Sunday newspaper who will obviously be publishing a story soon, that he did it to be be with his "missus and kids" rather than receiving financial gain.

He said further that he was in prison waiting trial on charges of possession of methamphetamine for supply when he heard about the burglary of the army museum.

Through his contacts, the former gang member who has facial tattoos of the gang's name on his cheeks and its insignia on his forehead, has found out who is responsible. He has recently been linked with a another notorious gang, but claims he's finished with gang culture.

But other gang members had found out that this was an opportunity for monetary gain - after all they are opportunists like any other criminals.

The gang member did his part of the deal gaining the information for the lawyer who had brokered the deal with police and the Crown to get his bail.

Those responsible for the burglary and theft from the army museum have not been named, and the amount of the reward/ ransom also has not been disclosed.

The gang member involved will still face drug charges and could face a prison sentence for those crimes.

Contributor's Note
This is an intriguing story which still has one or two more twists to it before the truth is known.

THE CLANDESTINE NEGOTIATIONS SURROUNDING THE RETURN OF THE STOLEN NEW ZEALAND WAR MEDALS...

First published at Qassia:

The clandestine negotiations surrounding the return of the stolen NZ war medals...
While the missing war New Zealand war medals have been returned, what was paid to an unknown person or persons, was not a reward, but in reality a ransom.

The alleged NZ$300.000 put up as a reward has been paid into a bank account by the lawyer who conducted cloak and dagger type negotiations with criminals to get the medals back in one piece. The obvious risk was the thieves would destroy them if they felt the situation was getting too hot for them.

The lawyer has said he knew who was responsible for the burglary and theft of the medals within one week of the break-in at the Waiouru Army Camp Museum.

Using contacts within Auckland's maximum security prison at Paremoremo and Mount Eden Prison, the former policemen-cum - defence lawyer tracked down those who were involved within weeks of the theft. They were edgy and prone to mood swings, according to the lawyer, and at times disappeared into the criminal woodwork. It apparently took some time to build up their trust.

It was a prolonged process in which he alternated between meetings with the thieves and the police, all outside his business office hours. He doesn't know how many hours he was involved in the negotiating process - it just consumed him.

Days before the NZ$300,000 reward was offered, he arranged for the return of a set of medals, which included a George Cross, to be returned as a sign of good faith.

The lawyer said the reward was extremely helpful, but he always believed the medals would be returned without the reward. An amount of money has been paid, but not stated.

While he had kept things quiet, and would keep the thieves identity secret, he refused to supply any legal advice on how they should avoid detection.

After much negotiation and talking, the medals were returned by a third party last week. The lawyer claimed to have not had any personal benefit from the negotiations. It was now up to the police to make any future decisions, and for the NZ Army to ensure better security regarding those and other medals and valuables in the Army Museum.

NEW ZEALAND SOCIETY IS ECSTATIC AT THE RETURN OF STOLEN WAR MEDALS

FIRST PUBLISHED AT QASSIA

New Zealand society is ecstatic at the return of stolen war medals.

The news of a burglary at the Army Museum in the Waiouru Military Camp last December left most New Zealanders in shock - 96 valuable medals including 9 Victoria Crosses( the NZ and Commonwealth equivalent to the US Medals of Honor)had been stolen in a brazen and despicable burglary. They included the VC and Bar Of Captain Charles Upham, New Zealand's most decorated soldier, and the only serving soldier to earn the VC twice.

The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Helen Clark, and many community and business leaders publicly condemned the robbery and theft of the irreplaceable medals, which are regarded as national treasures, icons and taonga of the country and people. Many heroes have given their lives in service to their country.

While Captain Upham"s medals had been sold by the late war hero's family to the British War Museum in London, they had been loaned back to New Zealand for 999 years.

The medals were returned as a result of the $NZ 300,000 reward, put up by British medal collector Lord Michael Ashcroft, and a Nelson,NZ, businessman and former US marine in Vietnam,Tom Sturgess. The reward had encouraged somebody to come forward and return the medals. No immunity from prosecution was given.

Police were celebrating like the military community, but their job will not be completed until the culprits are arrested and prosecuted. The police are to be highly commended for their work involved in recovering the medals. The families of medal recipients are over the moon at the recovery. Fears had been expressed that the medals could have been discarded somewhere.

The medals are unlikely to be on public display again. Other countries display replicas, and store the real medals in bank vaults; New Zealand will undoubtably follow suit. But, however, it is a day to celebrate.

THE KORAN REQUIRES RESPECT FOR NON-MUSLIMS TOO...

The Koran requires respect for non-Muslims - and this means Jews and Christians too! Muslims need to read their Koran from cover to cover, not just a few selected passages taken out of context. They also need to learn what is meant by Jihad - it is not some holy war that Muslim pretenders claim. I know and I'm not a Muslim. There are a number of people within Islam who claim to be Muslim - but devout and true Muslims would never dream of becoming suicide bombers endangering the lives of men, women, the aged and infirm, children and little helpless babies. Murder has no place within Islam any more than it has a place within Christendom.

Just read the following post and you may be surprised at the truth!

Just who was that foolish Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, trying to impress with his inane and inflammatory statements in recent months questioning the Holocaust, attacking Zionism and established historical facts and seeking the destruction of Israel? Was it for domestic or international consumption? I think it will all backfire on him eventually!

If it was for international influence he failed if an article in the Dominion Post daily newspaper, Wellington, New Zealand, is any example.

A highly respected Muslim historian from Christchurch, New Zealand, Abdullah Drury, strongly criticised President Ahmadinejad for his blatant anti-Semetism which is actually forbidden in mainstream Islam.

From his article, " A history of respect", 22 December,2006, he included the following:

The Prophet Muhammed, the ultimate role model for all Muslims, had a Jewish wife - Safiyah bint Huyai bin Akhtab. Her father was a former chief of the Banu Nadir, a distinguished Jewish tribe that settled in central Arabia and adopted the Arabic language. The Holy Koran refers to Safiyah - a now popular name for girls - as the mother of the Believer, and after the death of the Prophet, she became a powerful figure in early history and politics.

Further, Islamic law specifically forbids persecution or harassment of either Jews or Christians, and all Muslim societies with Islamic law in place invariably have some sort of fixed representative agencies or parliamentary seats for their Jewish minorities".

Interesting comments in my opinion. I wonder also what Mr Jury thinks about the illegal usage of the term "jihad ". He has explained that Muslims do not have Koranic permission to verbally or physically attack non- Muslims in the manner that some sections of Islam have in recent times. The Roman Catholic Church has a great term to deal with their worst sinners - Excommunication! It would be an appropriate term for Islam to adopt, in my humble opinion.

There would be an incredible number of Muslims being excommunicated if that was the case in Islam too !

SHOULD THE NEW ZEALAND NAVY BE SENT TO ESCORT JAPANESE WHALERS FROM NEW ZEALAND WATERS IN THE ANTARCTIC ROSS SEA - SEND A FRIGATE WITH GUNS READY TO BLAZE PERHAPS...

A New Zealand Orion patrol aircraft spotted the Japanese whaling fleet heading for the Antarctic Ross sea, heightening concerns the Japanese will begin hunting in New Zealand's Antarctic territory.

The aircraft was on a routine surveillance of fishing activity in the Southern Ocean. Until previously the Japanese whaling fleet had confined its activities to Australian territorial waters. An Australian Federal court ruling last week declared the Japanese fleets activities as being illegal.

The New Zealand conservation Minister has said the New Zealand Government was concerned about the whaling fleets movements, particularly because NZ is responsible for search and rescue operations in the Ross Sea.

The Minister, Ms Steve Chadwick, said we are concerned for the risk to human life and the Antarctic's pristine environment if the Japanese fleet encounter's problems there. Just last year there was a fire aboard the factory ship, NISHIN MARU, stranding it in the Ross Sea. One crew member was killed and the stricken ship containing hundreds of tonnes of heavy fuel oil, posted a genuine environmental risk.

This poses a real question: Considering the Japanese fleet is illegally entering New Zealand Antarctic waters, should a New Zealand naval frigate be sent to escort the fleet from NZ waters?

AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY RESEARCH INTO E-CIGARETTES MAY BENEFIT ANTI-SMOKING PROGRAMS...

An electronic cigarette which could give smokers their nicotine hit without all those harmful ingredients which presently exist in cigarette smoke might actually help them to beat their addiction, New Zealand scientists claim.

Auckland University researchers are recruiting 48 smokers who want to quit, to take part in the world’s first trial of the “e-cigarette“. Hayden McRobbie, from the university’s clinical trials research unit, said the e-cigarette which is presently sold by a Chinese company over the internet for $200 each, is marketed as an alternative to smoking rather than a tool to stop smoking.

Doctor McRobbie said they think it might actually prove more effective than current nicotine replacement treatments, such as patches and gum, because smoking is not just a chemical addiction, it is also behavioural.

The device is “smoked” like a conventional cigarette, and even glows at the tip when the smoker draws on it. A vaporiser device delivers a measured dose of nicotine in a mist.

Ex-smokers have often said they miss the ritual of smoking: the e-cigarette gives them something to do with their hands - as an ex-smoker myself, it was something I missed as I successfully withdrew from my smoking habit through the aid of patches, back in 1991.

Alternatives need to be looked at to help smoking addicts. While nicotine is the active ingredient in cigarettes - it is the tars, carbon monoxide and the other chemicals that make up the over 200 poisons that exist in cigarettes. These cause the heart and lung diseases that kill 4500 New Zealanders a year - out of a population of 4.25 million.

Researchers hope the New Zealand study will be completed by March of 2008. This will benefit those involved in anti - smoking programs worldwide.

The “quit or die” message was not working for many smokers, especially younger ones, who knew the dangers but were powerless against their craving. The craving was as psychological as it was physical.

STINGRAYS ARE NOT SOME HARMLESS SEA CREATURES - THEY CAN KILL HUMANS...

We keep reading about these sea creatures who have attacked a number of humans, some fatally over the years.

The latest occurred in recent days in New Zealand. A Dannevirke, North Island, man in his 40's was dragging a net at Herbertville Beach in the southern Hawkes Bay, when he was attacked.

One of the stings went into one side of his leg and out the other, breaking off the barb.

He was treated at the scene by ambulance officers and then taken by rescue helicopter to Palmerston North hospital. An ambulance spokesman said he had been in considerable pain.

It is well over a year since since Australian television celebrity and iconic crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, was fatally stabbed in the heart by a stingray barb.

His death was similar to that of an 18 year old New Zealand woman in 1939, who was at first believed to have been a victim of a sexual attack, but a post mortem later discovered that her heart wounds were caused by a stingray barb.

NEW ZEALANDER ROBBIE DEANS, AND FIRST FOREIGNER, APPOINTED AS HEAD COACH FOR AUSTRALIAN WALLABIES RUGBY TEAM...

A New Zealander, Robbie Deans, from my home town of Christchurch in Canterbury, is now the head coach of the Australian Wallabies Rugby team, after being turned down by the NZRU for the All Blacks position as head coach. Robbie is the first foreigner to coach the Australian rugby team; although a number of Kiwis have previously played for Australia.

A special deal has been struck to allow Robbie Deans to continue coaching the Christchurch based "Crusaders" professional franchise until the end of the coming Super 14 season.

Most American readers probably don't realise that a New Zealander coached the American Eagles Rugby team at the recent Rugby World Cup.

Rugby Union may not be that well known by North American readers, but it is more of a a world sport than American football which is primarily a North American sport like baseball. Only basketball can be considered a world sport.

I was the first here to predict that Robbie Deans will be Wallabies coach by the end of the week; and with the World Cup losing New Zealand All Blacks coach, Graham Henry, inexplicably reappointed for another two years, will I have to change my allegiance to Australia to ensure I support a winning team? I hope not, with tongue in cheek?

SUPPORT THE INTERNATIONAL CALL TO PROTEST AGAINST ENDANGERED WHALES AND DOLPHINS...

A blogging friend from another site posted a story about the problems being experienced by endangered species around the globe. Certain species of whales and dolphins are, indeed, endangered. Where possible I think we should be rallying to the call to support the various organisations involved in taking action to prevent these mammals from becoming extinct.

Greenpeace, for example is taking direct action to protest against the killing of whales by Japanese interests, allegedly in the name of science

Please read the following article about one of the most endangered whale species, the Southern Right Whale:

SOUTHERN RIGHT WHALE
Eubalaena australis
(Desmoilins 1822)

DERIVATION: from the Latin australis for southern.

At a recent marine mammal conference, it was demonstrated how the use of technology is enhancing whale research. During a 6-week-period, a right whale mother and her calf were documented 2 times in the Bay of Fundy. In years past, it would have been assumed that they had remained in the bay for that time period. Since the mother was tagged and the pair tracked by satellite, researchers discovered that the twosome had not remained in the Bay of Fundy, but instead had traveled 2,500 miles.

It is speculated that the reason for this enormous journey is that the mother is making a parental investment and showing her calf feeding grounds. The breeding mothers, for unknown reasons, have different feeding ground imprints. If these mothers were killed, there would be a cultural extinction of that right whale feeding ground. While the Southern population of whales is growing, the Northern population remains at 350. However, not all of these 350 animals are breeding.

At the same conference, Dr. Charles "Stormy" Mayo said that the scientific community cannot wait until every item of a study has been analyzed. Scientists must take an active role with regard to the species they are studying. He was referring to Boston's plan to send sewage to Stellwagen Banks, a critical whale feeding ground.

Inconclusive studies have been done to determine how much food a right whale needs and how sewage will affect copepods (mainstay of their diet). Dr. Mayo warned that the need for answers is immediate and desperate. Scientists speculate sewage will have a significant impact on whale feeding grounds. Feeding right whales depend on grouping of copepods. Sewage could block sunlight diminishing copepods' food source (plankton) and cause copepods to scatter. If they scatter, the whales will starve.

In the case of right whales, any errors or accidents could mean extinction.

DESPICABLE THEFT OF 100 MEDALS, INCLUDING NINE VICTORIA CROSSES STOLEN FROM ARMY MUSEUM IN WAIOURU,IN NEW ZEALAND'S NORTH ISLAND...

The despicable theft of 100 medals, including nine Victoria Crosses, the Commonwealth's highest award for valour - the equivalent of the US Medal of Honor, during a burglary at the New Zealand Army Museum in Waiouru in the North Island, has shattered those distraught families who had permitted these medals to be on display.

They fear that the medals, valued at NZ$10 million could end up on the black market overseas. They could not be sold on the open market.

The medals include the VC and Bar, awarded to Captain Charles Upham, universally recognised as the most gallant of all from any allied army in World War Two. The medals include those awarded in World War One as well. There were two George Medals, which are awarded to civilians, and an Albert Medal originally awarded for saving lives at sea.

NZ police stated the burglars and thieves entered through the rear of the museum at about 1-10am, and smashed the display cases to get at the priceless medals. The security system was activated, but the thieves were gone by the time a security guard arrived within minutes.

It is not only a tragic loss for the families who owned these priceless medals, but also for the nation as a whole. These were national treasures; the average New Zealander will feel gutted as well.

The VC and Bar of Captain Upham, had been sold by his daughters to the British Imperial Museum just last year, and had been loaned back to NZ for 999 years.

These medals had been awarded to their recipients for extraordinary valour and have come to symbolise the huge sacrifices that many New Zealanders made in conjunction with those from other allied nations in many conflicts and wars during the 20th Century, and even early in the 21st Century.

Fortunately the medal of New Zealand's latest war hero, Sgt Willy Apiata, awarded for action under fire when rescuing his comrades in Afghanistan was not taken.

The families of the war heroes have pleaded for the return of these medals.

Diary of a House Sitter: The body continues to suffer

SARAH ULMER - NEW ZEALAND'S WORLD CHAMPION CYCLING GOLDEN GIRL HAS RETIRED...

Sarah Ulmer - New Zealand's world champion cycling golden girl has retired through continuing injury. She has left a sporting legacy New Zealand's top athletes across all codes must aspire to carry on, highly respected former Kiwi national coach Ron Cheatley said. That is a huge call!

Sarah Ulmer, world record holder, world champion, Olympic champion, and multiple Commonwealth Games Champion, retired from cycling last Saturday after a nerve problem in her leg, which had dogged her since 2000, finally proved too much.

Her former coach betwen 1997 and 2000 said Ulmer' single minded determination to win was among other things, the key to her success and far too rare these days across New Zealand' sporting landscape.

She had that determined streak that had set champions like Peter Snell, Murray Halberg and John Walker apart from their compatriots decades ago - that will to win, and not letting opponents get in her way. She never made excuses - other people may have for her, but she would never make them!

Many sports people today may be a little precious and guilty of blaming others and other things around them for failing to succeed - but not Sarah Ulmer. She was respected by opponents and the general public alike. She was a true champion!

Was she New Zealand's greatest cyclist? She was undoubtably the best ever female cyclist in New Zealand's history.

New Zealand sport would be all the poorer without her, and she would be missed on New Zealand's television screens too; she had been famous here for a particular food advertisement.

Goodbye Sarah!

A NEW FRONTIER IN HEALTH - THE GLYCONUTRIENTS - THE EIGHT MIRACLE SUGARS! READ THIS FANTASTIC STORY...

A new frontier in health - the Glyconutrients - the eight miracle sugars! Read this fantastic story!

What on earth am I going on about? What are these miracle sugars? What are they going to do for our health? Just what on earth is a glyconutrient?

Something virtually undetected until recent times, the glyconutrients, known as the miracle sugars offer a new universe or frontier of health potential. Does it ring a bell yet, or is it a total mystery? I like a good mystery, do you?

Scores of studies around the western world have linked the efficiences of these extraordinary sugars to everything from lupus, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, ADHD, to infertility and many more health problems.

Since they are so basic to the needs of every cell in the body, dozens of other illnesses have been linked to an inbalance of these sugars, and by increasing their intake through diet or supplementation it has led to the restoration and maintenance of the health of countless individuals.

These sugars are so very critical for human health. As far as immune enhancement is concerned, they must be viewed as absolutely essential for maximum disease prevention and maintenance.

Just what are these eight miracle sugar bullets for great health?

Glucose; galactose; fucose; mannose; xylose; n-acetyl- neuramic acid; n-acetyl-glucosamines; n-acetyl-galactosamines.

Only glucose and galactose are readily available in our everyday diets. The other six are not available and must be added through supplements.

The human body requires water, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, proteins, fats and carbohydrates to function properly. The foods we eat supply these macronutrients and come from a variety of sources. Once we moved away from the farm and to a fast food society, the need to suppement glyconutrients and other vital nutrients has become mandatory.

As only two of what I would call here magic, or miracle sugar bullets, are available in our modern diets, we have to look for other sources to provide the other six.

There are many plants around the world that have a high glyconutrient content: aloe vera; astragalus; saps; gums; garlic; certain mushrooms; yeasts; husks; breast milk; coconut meats; echinacea; maize; pectins from fruit; some algae; certain herbs, and many others.

There are several reasons why our modern diets and lifestyle actually provide us with less of the essential glyconutrients than our forebears.

Because of green harvests; processed foods (all the takeaways and takeouts)preservatives, increased toxins along with the limited variety of grocery store foods we eat, all reduce our vital supply glyconutrients. We have two, but must supplement the other six in our diets.

The above has been an overview of what our cells need to keep our bodies healthy and fully functional, and having the ability to repair damage - I will provide an Email link if you wish for further information: allara@xtra.co.nz "Glyconutrient information".

THE CHESNUT TREE THAT ANNE FRANK LOVED TO SEE IN THE MORNINGS IS TO BE CHOPPED DOWN...

The Chesnut tree that comforted the young Jewish girl, Anne Frank, where she and her family hid from the Nazis during World War Two, is to be cut down by the local council because it is too diseased to be saved.

The rotting 27 tonne tree has been declared a danger to its surroundings, including the 'secret annex' on top of the canal-side warehouse where the Frank family lived in a tiny attic hidden from the Nazis for 25 months, a statement from the Amersterdam council said recently.

Rapid decay, fungus and moths have caused more than half of the trunk to simply rot away, the council said.

Millions of readers of the book, 'Diary of Anne Frank', over many decades will find the tree familiar - she made several references to it in her diary she kept during the 25 months she remained hidden indoors until August 1944 when the family was arrested by the Nazis and taken to a concentration camp where they all died.

Anne wrote: " Nearly every morning I go to the attic to blow the stuffy air out of my lungs." She wrote on Feb 23, 1944 "From my favourite spot on the floor I look up at the blue sky and the bare Chesnut tree, on whose branches little raindrops shine, appearing like silver, and at the seagulls and other birds as they glide on the world...and I may see it, this sunshine, the cloudless skies - while this lasts I cannot be unhappy." A sad little commentary.

The council has reluctantly given a licence to cut the tree down, despite protests from the 'Anne Frank Museum' - where the tiny apartment has been preserved.

Grafts have been taken from the tree and a sapling will eventually replace the tree, and the memory of a brave little girl will continue for ever, there in that canal-side warehouse.

A SAD TALE OF TWO POLICE SHOOTINGS ... HALF A WORLD APART...

Reading the American story below made me think of a New Zealand case where a young man was shot by police. But lets go to America first.

1/ America:

An unarmed, mentally ill young man of 18 years could be heard yelling over the phone," I've got a gun!" as his mother made an emergency call.

New York police arrived at the family home and opened fire on the young man in a 20 bullet barrage, according to a transcript of the emergency call released by police recently.

Five police officers opened fire on him, after he allegedly charged them outside of his home with an alleged black object in his hand - a hair brush!

His mother had apparently attempted to have her son hospitalised earlier that day. But she was unsuccessful in convincing authorities of the need for his admission. There is definately no need now!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2/ New Zealand:

Some years ago in Taranaki, New Zealand, a young man in his late twenties left his parents home in the evening in an extremely agitated state. A short time later he was reported to police as being the culprit smashing windows in the town's CBD. Police moved in, ordering him to cease, but he continued on his smashing spree. The police officers again ordered him to desist, but this time he moved towards the leading police officer, armed with a softball bat and golf club.

The leading policeman raised his Glock pistol which had been in the patrol car, and again ordered the man to desist, but he kept moving towards the policeman, who fired a number of shots at him. He fell mortally wounded. and died later.

This case raised a furore within New Zealand at the time because the general public claimed the policeman over-reacted. Apparently a police- dog and handler had been sent from New Plymouth city, only twenty minutes away by road. The dead man's family and members of the general public maintained that the police should have backed off and waited for the dog and handler to arrive.

The policeman was exonerated of any wrong doing at the inquest and ensuing enquiry. But the New Zealand public remains divided over the policeaction, many years later.

WHO IS THE THIRD ANTI-CHRIST? SOME SAY IT IS "MABUS". WHO IN HEAVEN'S NAME IS MABUS?

Good questions you might say. Is "Mabus" actually the Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi? It was claimed he once said that by using nuclear bombs it was actually perfectly fine and above board, according to Muslim law, in order to conquer the world for the God of Mount Sinai aka Allah. Really?

Perhaps the Muslims think they would survive the resulting nuclear winter and the ensuing ultraviolet summer. Nostradamus said the "Mabus" would soon die.

It was claimed that a wise women once said," He who knows everthing knows nothing,"; 2 Billion Christians, 1 billion Muslims and 18 million Jews believe their Holy Bibles, including the books of the Prophets are the word of God of Mount Sinai.

LET'S PUT THE QUESTION: DOES THE STATE OF TEXAS AND GOD LOVE TO EXECUTE? YES I THINK!

Do Texas and God love to execute? Your thoughts about this? Yes or no?

Texas will almost certainly reach the grim total of 400 executions in 25 years this month, far ahead of any other American state. The toll is testament to the influence of the state's conservative evangelical Christians and its cultural mix of Old South and Wild West. Some critics say the South can be seen in the racial bias of death sentencing, more than 41 per cent of the inmates on death row in Texas are black, but blacks are only about 12 per cent of the state's population.

In America God is allegedly a little different, he wears a big cowboy hat and a semi automatic hand gun, delivers justice via an electric chair and apparently has an IQ of 3, the ‘turn the other cheek’ and ‘love each other’ God was allegedly replaced in favour of the furiously stupid and psychopathic God by popular vote in America in 1832, how one can balance the apparent ‘goodness’ of God with a corrupt death penalty system that seems to have a penchant for executing black people is something claimed only a bible thumping Texan could understand. Amen.

WHAT A SHOCKING END TO A SURVIVOR FROM THE HELL OF THE HOLOCAUST SIXTY YEARS AGO...

What a shocking and inauspicious end to a survivor from the hell of the holocaust...

After surviviving the living hell of the holocaust over sixty years ago, an 80 year old survivor, Katherine Schweitzer, was found strangled to death in a wheelie bin near her Bellevue Hill unit for senior citizens in Sydney late last year.

What a shocking and inauspicious end to a concentration camp survivor who outlasted every conceivable inhumanity the SS guards dished out to her. As they would say in Sydney, what a great little Aussie battler! This poor old widow with no known living relatives in Australia deserved a better end than that! Nobody to fend for her, nobody to protect her from such brutal human trash in her latter years.

She survived the terrors of a Nazi concentration camp to end up 10,000 miles away like some discarded piece of trash - it just wasn't fair; but life is not always fair, is it?

Police described the killing as "callous and bizarre", with no obvious motive.

The Police sought a man in his 20's near the unit block where Mrs Schweitzer met her extremely sad end to her long life on this planet.

Depraved is a good word. I just can't understand such acts; robbery, yes! But such a lack of basic human empathy! I'm getting on a little myself, and it makes me wonder a little. Our elderly folk, in whatever country, city or town, need somebody to keep an eye on them. Somebody just to call around a couple of times a week to say hello, and to be a contact for those elderly people if they need one. She may have seen somebody hanging around but had nobody to confide in!

ARMED NEW ZEALAND POLICE SWOOP ON ADDRESSES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY - SUSPICION OF TERRORISM...

Little New Zealand down in the South Pacific, 2000 miles and three hours east of Walzing Matilda country, Australia, is hardly considered potential terrorist country. But post 9/11 anything is possible I guess.

Consider our surprise yesterday, NZ time, when our daily newspapers and television news programs indicated that terorism is not only possible here, but may actually be in the process of beginning. Hells teeth!

Armed police have swooped across the country after a 12 month investigation, arresting many people, and seizing weapons, military style eqipment, body armour, army issue knives, and terrorist training manuals during the raids which were carried out under the Firearms Act and the Terrorist Suppression Act.

They discovered what they claim were terrorist training camps. This has been denied by Maori groups who claim other reasons for the camps. A variety of groups have been caught up in the raids.

At training camps in the isolated Urewera ranges in the north east of the North Island a loose alliance of activists are accused of plotting armed attacks. But who against, is the question here?

There have been claims of political reasons for the raids - an anti-terrorism Bill is being debated by members of parliament here.

The NZ Cabinet was briefed yesterday on the police operation. The alleged military operation was taken seriously. Claims that napalm bombs were being developed and one had already been detonated, was considered deeply serious.

There were reports that a specific threat was made recently against the prime minister, Helen Clark. She wouldn't comment on threats against her or other politicians. The Diplomatic Protection Squad was connected to the security operation.

Some people claim the operation was heavy handed and over the top. Whatever the real or perceived reasons for the raids, a number of accused people will be having their day in court in the next few days in attempts to obtain bail. But what do these people want with such weapons? Guns are designed to kill. Is it a real terrorist plot, or the scene of another Peter Jackson masterpiece?
